How Much Time Do You Really Need to Spend on LinkedIn?

How much time do you think you need to spend on LinkedIn to get clients?

A few hours a day?

An hour every morning?

Perhaps you feel you need to be constantly posting, commenting and keeping up with everything happening in your feed.

A client said something similar to me when we first started working together.

She believed she needed to spend a lot more time on LinkedIn if she wanted it to generate business.

When we looked at how she was actually using the platform, a lot of that time was being spent scrolling through content.

She was active, but much of that activity wasn't taking her any closer to the people she wanted to work with.

We changed the approach.

Rather than opening LinkedIn and seeing where the feed took her, she now has a much clearer idea of what she wants to achieve when she goes onto the platform and where her time is best spent.

She doesn't spend hours on LinkedIn.

She spends around 15–20 minutes a day on it.

The difference is that those 15–20 minutes have a purpose.

That might be engaging with people in her network, looking at who she wants to build relationships with or taking actions that support the type of business she wants to attract.

The scrolling has gone.

So has the feeling that LinkedIn needs to take over her working day.

And she is getting results.

You don't need to spend hours on LinkedIn to build a presence that supports your business. You need to know what you want LinkedIn to do for you and make the time you spend there count.

For someone running a business, that can make a huge difference.

You already have clients to look after, work to deliver and a business to run. LinkedIn needs to fit into that rather than becoming another job.

If you are spending a lot of time on LinkedIn but aren't seeing much come from it, I'd start by looking at how you're spending that time, rather than simply trying to spend more of it.

That is something I can help with in a LinkedIn consultancy session. We can look at what you want LinkedIn to do for your business, how you're currently using it and where your time would be better spent.

September is usually when people start thinking about getting back into a routine. That includes LinkedIn. After a few weeks away, it can be tempting to try to pick up exactly where you left off. That might mean deciding you’re going to post several times a week, comment every day and finally get through all those content ideas you've been sitting on. A routine that felt manageable when you had more time can quickly become difficult once work gets busy again. Before deciding how much content...

LinkedIn Expertise Hub

A lot of people assume that if LinkedIn isn’t bringing enquiries, they must be further away than they realised. They think they need more content, more visibility, or a complete rethink of what they’re doing. But in a lot of cases, that isn’t true. What’s usually happening is that they’re closer than they think, but something small is getting in the way at the point where interest should turn into action. They’re showing up, their content is being seen, and the right people are likely coming...

The biggest thing I’ve noticed in 2025 is how many people think social media is easier now that AI tools can write content for them. They couldn’t be further from the truth, because in reality, it’s having the opposite effect. LinkedIn feeds are full of posts that look and sound the same. The more generic the content becomes, the easier it is for people to scroll past it without a second thought. This is where so many solopreneurs are struggling. They are creating more, yet getting noticed...
